Senior Manager, Plant Engineering

The Senior Manager, Plant Support Engineering - Electrical, leads the electrical plant support engineering team, overseeing design and operations support for electrical aspects of Waste to Energy (WTE) processes globally across 40
facilities.
This encompasses High, Medium, and Low Voltage Electrical Systems, such as Switchgears, Relay Protection, Transformers, and Motor Control Centers.
The role involves troubleshooting electrical infrastructure supporting various disciplines, acting as an electrical systems subject matter expert (SME), and guiding technical resolution and troubleshooting for emergent or ongoing challenges.
Responsibilities also include root cause analyses and implementation of corrective and preventative actions for the installed fleet.
The role requires approximately 30% travel and extensive collaboration with site teams.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Plant Support Engineering, this role is pivotal in goal setting, budgeting, resource planning, project prioritization, and fostering collaboration across various engineering and operational teams.
Key
Responsibilities:
Technical:
Provide technology subject matter expertise for all aspects of plant electrical equipment.
Establish and maintain a Risk Heat Map for electrical systems across the fleet, implementing tools and programs for risk mitigation and performance improvement.
Manage, prioritize, and assist the engineering team in discipline engineering tasks.
Lead critical technical programs for the company.
Develop and maintain technical service bulletins and ensure site adherence to technical standards and internal/OEM bulletins.
Provide operational support, troubleshoot challenges, and propose recommendations to address specific site and fleet risks.
Collaborate with external engineering firms for risk assessments and mitigation development.
Continuous Improvement and EHS:
Take ownership of engineering-led Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) within technology disciplines and implement solutions.
Drive Lessons Learned initiatives based on technical issues at sites, updating technical standards for future design improvements.
Lead initiatives for increased facility reliability, availability, performance, and operational savings.
Lead the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process for critical troubleshooting at sites.
Leadership:
Attract and develop key talent, including performance management of internal teams.
Provide guidance on the professional development of electrical SMEs across the engineering department.
Develop a strategy for knowledge capture from team members and broader SME community to mentor and future-proof the talent pipeline, enabling proactive risk mitigation.
Overall, this role involves managing technical aspects, driving continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with technical standards, and fostering talent and knowledge management within the organization.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is mandatory.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical engineering roles.
Prior experience working in power generating plants or large industrial facilities with a focus on Medium and High Voltage Systems (Switchgears, Motor Control Centers, Relay Protection, Transformers, etc.
).
Additional experience in power plants and cogeneration is desirable.
Experience in managing technical personnel, either in a direct report or team responsibility setting, is required.
Experience in direct customer engagement related to product support or issue resolution is desirable.
Experience in facility operations and/or maintenance support is beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and identify trends.
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, with proficiency in communication across all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with minimal direction while providing guidance to a technical team of direct reports.
Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Certifications:
Six Sigma certification (Green Belt minimum) is highly desired.
