Title: Linux Engineer


As an integral part of its technology plan, we are looking to employ a talented, self-motivated individual, to administer the Linux environment, reporting directly into the data and systems manager.





Responsibilities/accountabilities:

Hands-on system administration, hardware configuration, software installation, deployment activities
Write scripts for system administration and operational tasks
Write thorough and accurate technical documentation for use by the operations and production support staff
Provide technical input and support from level 1 through to system engineering / development.
Participate in proactive monitoring and support to maintain the health of the global server environment, including regular software and firmware patching.
Work to define, document, and apply global standards to the environment.
Participate in on-call rotations and out of hours work as needed.
Prioritize and work through tasks received
Liaise and work with the development, architecture and engineering groups to design and implement the company?s ultra-low latency high frequency trading environment
Design / maintain the DR / BCP server environment
Participate actively in application / opsys performance tests, and in the selection process of applications / opsys
Any other project relevant to the position and skill set as and when required by management

Background:

Skills:
5
years experience in Linux system administration
Strong hands-on experience in managing a large number of mission-critical servers
Knowledge of Intel based hardware: Sandy-bridge, Ivy-bridge architectures
Strong understanding of TCP, multicast and Linux networking
Experience in 10 GB environments, kernel by-pass technologies, TCP packets capture, Linux networking
Ability to recognize critical production and client-facing issues, and prioritize them
Ability to communicate at all levels within IT and the various Business Units
Ability to work independently and within a team, own issues and solve them
Experience in ultra-low latency environments
Experience in high frequency trading
Advanced programming knowledge - required: Shell scripts, Perl, Python
Programming knowledge ? big advantage: C / C++Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
